The powerful Israel lobby AIPAC has cut financial aid to some Democratic representatives
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), one of the most powerful pro-Israel lobbies in the United States, has unusually stopped financial support for a number of Democratic Party representatives who have voted to halt U.S. military aid to Israel.
According to American media reports, AIPAC has removed fundraising links for several Democratic representatives from its website, an action perceived as a political message to lawmakers who have recently taken critical stances on the continuation of Washington’s military support for Israel.
This decision was made after a group of Democratic representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives supported proposals to limit or stop the delivery of weapons and military aid to Israel, a matter that has further highlighted the divide within the Democratic Party over the Gaza war and U.S. policy towards Israel.
However, this action does not mean a complete cut of AIPAC’s support for the Democratic Party. The lobby still provides financial support to dozens of Democratic candidates who support continued military aid to Israel, alongside a large number of Republican candidates.
Analysts believe that AIPAC’s recent decision indicates increased pressure from this lobby on Democratic representatives who have recently taken critical positions on Israel’s policies and could impact electoral competition and the political alignment of the Democratic Party ahead of the upcoming U.S. elections.
