Akram Khodabandeh, the Iranian taekwondo athlete, bid farewell to the national team.

Akram Khodabandeh, the Iranian taekwondo athlete, said goodbye to the national team after 12 years and joined the ranks of athletes who withdraw from the national team due to the Iranian government’s violence against protesters.

Ms. Khodabandeh wrote in her Instagram post that this farewell is in honor of the sorrowful hearts of the people.

She had previously criticized the Iranian government’s violence against protesters in her Instagram stories.

Akram Khodabandeh once compared the Iranian government’s spokesperson’s comments, which stated they could have easily shot protesters with live bullets but chose not to, to the statements of the Nazi German army spokesperson, in her Instagram story.
