Al Jazeera: Trump’s maximum pressure on Iran is unlikely to succeed

Al Jazeera, quoting political analyst Alfiraz Shirz, wrote that the new US effort to apply maximum economic pressure on Iran is a repeat of the policy that Donald Trump’s first administration also pursued but failed to execute successfully.

According to this analyst, during Trump’s second term, his declining credibility weakened America’s influence on the international community, and for this reason, it is unlikely that Washington’s secondary sanctions against Iran can achieve the desired objectives.

Shirz also claimed that the US, in its campaign against Iran, has made a series of glaring strategic mistakes and has failed to balance effectively between the use of military power, diplomacy, and political maneuvering.

He considered the Trump administration’s behavior with some US allies, including Denmark and Canada, as part of this same approach and said that all these actions indicate that the US government does not know how to play the geostrategic game.
