Alexander Lukashenko says Maduro can move to Belarus

Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, stated that Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, can come to Belarus if he leaves power, but no discussions have been held with Maduro regarding this. These remarks were reportedly made in an interview with the American network Newsmax, which was published on Monday by a Telegram channel associated with Lukashenko’s government.

Reuters wrote that tensions between the governments of the United States and Venezuela are high, including the extensive deployment of U.S. military forces in the southern Caribbean Sea, U.S. attacks on boats allegedly involved in drug trafficking, and statements by U.S. President Donald Trump suggesting that a ground operation in Venezuela might begin soon.

The Venezuelan government has announced that the United States is seeking a regime change to gain control over the country’s vast oil reserves.
