Ali Daei: I declined FIFA’s invitation to attend the World Cup so I could be in my homeland these days.

Ali Daei, the football star, has announced that he declined an official invitation to attend the World Cup in Qatar to show solidarity with the families of those killed in the nationwide protests following the death of Mahsa Amini.

Mr. Daei wrote in an Instagram post that during these days when most of us are not feeling well, I turned down the official invitation from FIFA and the Qatar Football Federation to attend the World Cup with my wife and daughters so I could be with you in my homeland and express my sympathy with all the families who have lost their loved ones these days, hoping for brighter days for Iran and Iranians.
