Iranian weightlifter Ali Davoudi reached the runner-up position and secured his quota for the Olympics.
On the final day of the Weightlifting World Cup, Ali Davoudi achieved the runner-up position in the super heavyweight category with a record of 454 kilograms and secured his quota for the Olympics.
These competitions, hosted by Thailand, were the final qualifying stage for Paris. Davoudi, with 202 kilograms in snatch and 252 kilograms in clean and jerk, claimed the second place for himself. Gor Minasyan from Armenia, with impressive records of 210 and 253 kilograms, totaling 463 kilograms, became the champion.
In this category, Ayyoub Sharifi won the third place with 201 kilograms in snatch and 246 kilograms in clean and jerk. Although he set a remarkable record, he couldn’t surpass Davoudi’s quota limit due to the one quota per country rule.
As a result, Iranian weightlifting will be represented by two athletes in Paris. Davoudi will go to Paris as the Olympic runner-up in Tokyo in the super heavyweight category, along with Mir Mostafa Gholami in the 89-kilogram category.
