Ali Mousavi becomes Iran’s new ambassador to the UK

Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, announced the selection of a new Iranian ambassador to the UK after about 3 years and stated that Ali Mousavi, the Director General of Legal Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, has been appointed as the new Iranian ambassador to the UK.

Ismail Baghaei emphasized that the process of appointing ambassadors is clear and referred to media comments regarding ambassador selections as media rumors. He said, ‘We do not comment on media rumors and will announce it as soon as it is finalized.’

Ali Mousavi, the Director General of Legal Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, replaces Mohsen Baharvand, who was in London for a total of six months.

Mohsen Baharvand was dismissed in March 2022 following the reaction of hardliners in Iran to the presence of unveiled women at the anniversary ceremony of the 1979 revolution at the Iranian embassy in the UK.
