Amany, a member of Tehran’s city council, says building a mosque in Qeytarieh Park will lead to public mistrust.

Naser Amany, a member of Tehran’s city council, expresses opposition to the construction of a mosque in Qeytarieh Park, stating it will cause mistrust among a large segment of the citizens.

In a post on Mr. Amany’s social media account on X, shared on Wednesday, April 8, it was written that building a mosque in part of Qeytarieh Park not only does not honor Islamic symbols but also damages them and leads to mistrust among a large segment of the citizens. How long will we continue to harm ourselves?

This post was accompanied by a video of Mr. Amany’s warning in the last public session of the city council before the Nowruz holidays. In this warning, addressed to the mayor of Tehran, this city council member states that building a mosque and changing the use of parks is against the law. He also mentions that there are several thick trees at the mosque’s construction site that cannot be relocated.

Previously, Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, confirmed the plan to build a mosque in this park and stated that no trees would be cut down for the construction of this mosque, and only some saplings would be relocated.

Meanwhile, a number of citizens have launched an online campaign to prevent the construction of this mosque.
