Amnesty International: The accusation of sexual assault by Taliban members in Sar-e Pol must be investigated
In recent days, the claim of sexual assault on a woman and her two young daughters in Sar-e Pol province has sparked widespread reactions. A local Taliban official has confirmed the incident and stated that a person has been arrested in connection with it. In a statement, Amnesty International’s reporter, Zaman Soltani, said that details of the gang rape of a woman and her daughters, which Taliban members are accused of committing, are becoming clearer. This is a new horrific level in the disgraceful record of human rights violations that Afghanistan is witnessing today. The Amnesty International statement mentioned that the alleged assault occurred on the night of February 28, 2023, in the village of Khanaqah, Sozma Qala district, Sar-e Pol province, Afghanistan. According to reports, the incident happened when apparently two Taliban members forcibly entered a house at 11 PM and gang-raped a woman and her two daughters.
So far, only the arrest of one person in connection with this claim has been reported.
