Amnesty International’s warning to the global community: Do not be deceived by the dissolution of the Guidance Patrol
Amnesty International states that the Attorney General of the Islamic Republic has deliberately made contradictory statements regarding the shutdown of the Guidance Patrol.
Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the Attorney General of the Islamic Republic, said on Sunday, December 3, that the Guidance Patrol is not related to the judiciary and was shut down from the same place it was established, although the judiciary continues its oversight of behavioral actions in society.
On Tuesday, Heba Morayef, the head of Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa section, warned that the international community should not be deceived by these statements regarding the ongoing violence against Iranian women and girls embedded in the mandatory hijab laws.
Morayef further described Montazeri’s statements as deliberately vague, noting that they do not address the legal and policy foundations that sustain the mandatory hijab against women and girls.
