A Murder That Turned 24 Years Old

On the evening of the first of Azar 1377 (November 1998), Dariush Forouhar and Parvaneh Forouhar were murdered in their home in Tehran. This murder marked the beginning of a series of killings of Iranian writers and intellectuals, including Mohammad Jafar Pouyandeh, Mohammad Mokhtari, and Majid Sharif, which later became known as the Chain Murders of the Ministry of Intelligence.

The Ettela’at newspaper the next day published the news of the murder of Dariush Forouhar and his wife, writing that Dariush Forouhar and his wife were killed in their home on Hedayat Street in Tehran by unknown individuals with knife stabs. According to reports, Bahmanesh, the duty criminal judge, and the crime investigation officers are examining and investigating the cause of this crime at Dariush Forouhar’s house. This report indicates that eyewitnesses believe the murderer or murderers were acquaintances, as they entered the house with a box of sweets and a bouquet of flowers.
