Attack by an Iranian-linked hacker group on water supply network equipment in the USA
Following the announcement of an attack by an Iranian-linked hacker group on water supply network equipment in several US states, US cybersecurity officials issued a warning, calling for increased cybersecurity protection in the country’s infrastructure service companies, including electricity, gas, and water sectors.
In this regard, Eric Goldstein, the assistant executive director for cybersecurity at the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, told reporters on Monday, December 4, that the malicious cyber activities of this group continue, and companies should especially focus on enhanced protection of equipment passwords.
In recent days, American and Israeli officials reported cyberattacks by a group named CyberAv3ngers on the industrial equipment of a water authority in a region in western Pennsylvania and at least four other entities in several US states.
In an image apparently released by these hackers, a slogan against the existence of Israel is seen with the message that all Israeli-made equipment is a legitimate target for CyberAv3ngers.
