Andy Baker, a member of the U.S. negotiating team with Iran, is leaving the Trump administration.
Andy Baker, Deputy National Security Advisor to the White House and a member of the U.S. negotiating team with Iran, is set to leave Donald Trump’s administration in the coming weeks.
Baker, who also served as National Security Advisor to Vice President J.D. Vance, has been a significant figure in foreign policy and national security decision-making for the Trump administration over the past 18 months and personally participated in negotiations with Iran this year.
According to Axios, Cliff Sims, who replaced Baker as National Security Advisor to Vance earlier this summer, will remain in his position, and Mike Needham will continue as Deputy National Security Advisor to the White House.
A source close to Baker has said he intends to spend more time with his family and had stayed longer in the administration than planned to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
Baker is expected to enter the private sector after leaving the administration and collaborate with Robert O’Brien, Trump’s former National Security Advisor.
J.D. Vance, Marco Rubio, and Steve Witkoff have also separately praised Baker’s role in the Trump administration’s national security and foreign policy team.
