Antony Blinken said the Taliban have practically removed women from the public sphere with their orders.
The US State Department has released its annual report on the human rights situation in countries, criticizing the Taliban government for widespread human rights violations in Afghanistan, including continuing restrictions on women and ethnic and religious minorities.
The report also mentions the continuation of Taliban’s policies of detention, persecution, and arrest of political opponents.
The US State Department report states that due to these issues and the Taliban’s inflexibility, the US does not have a decision to recognize the Taliban government. Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, told reporters that they prepared this report in collaboration with international institutions and organizations.
When presenting this report, he mentioned that the Taliban have practically removed women from the public sphere with their orders, and the situation for women in Afghanistan has worsened. The Taliban have restricted job opportunities for women, closed girls’ educational institutions, and increased public flogging of accused men and women.
