The approval of the Foreign Agents Law in the US demanded a change in Georgia’s policy.

The approval of the Foreign Agents Law by the Georgian parliament has led to not only domestic protests but also international criticism. The US government has asked Georgian authorities to change the political course taken according to this legislation.

US State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, has stated that in our view, the Georgian government should change the course it has taken.

Price also referred to surveys indicating that 80% of the Georgian people are in favor of their country joining the European Union. He also mentioned that the Tbilisi government has expressed its desire to join the EU and engage with transatlantic institutions like NATO.

The US State Department spokesperson said that issues such as this law are not compatible with these objectives.
