Araqchi: Despite differences with America, our positions have become closer.
Abbas Araqchi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic, said in an interview with IRIB after the conclusion of the fourth round of negotiations with America in Oman that this round was more serious and straightforward compared to the previous three rounds.
Abbas Araqchi added that we have moved away from general atmospheres and entered into more detailed matters, and for this reason, the negotiations have become more difficult.
The Foreign Minister stated that despite the difficulty and straightforwardness of the negotiations, useful discussions were held. He added that both sides have a better understanding of each other’s positions, and there was more discussion on the main contentious issues, bringing the positions closer.
Araqchi commented on the positions of American officials, saying that the contradictory positions of the Americans in the public sphere do not aid the negotiations. He stated that today we mentioned that this approach must be corrected, and if it is repeated, we will have no choice but to act the same way.
He stated that the lifting of sanctions is one of the foundations of our negotiations under any circumstances. He added that from our perspective, enrichment is non-negotiable; while the size and level of enrichment might have limitations for confidence-building as in the past, the principle of enrichment is not negotiable.
