Araqchi: US intervention in the Strait of Hormuz has endangered the security of this waterway

Abbas Araqchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, said at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Kyrgyzstan that just weeks after signing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the US showed it does not adhere to its commitments by attacking Iran’s infrastructure.

He also stated that the US’s direct interference in implementing security and maritime arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, and the reimposition of a naval blockade, has endangered the security of one of the world’s most important strategic waterways and disrupted the normal flow of international commercial shipping.

The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister also warned that any involvement in an attack on Iran will bring international responsibility for the involved parties, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic considers the source of any aggression against the country as a legitimate target for defensive actions by its armed forces within the framework of the right to self-defense.
