Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, stated in a letter to the UN Secretary-General, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the foreign ministers of various countries that peaceful protests in the country were turned violent by terrorist elements affiliated with the Zionist regime.

Araghchi wrote that peaceful protests began on December 28, 2025, concerning economic issues, but were exploited by the entry of terrorist elements, turning these peaceful protests into armed riots.
