Arash Sadeghi’s appeal hearing was held yesterday.
The appeal hearing in the case of Arash Sadeghi, a former political prisoner who was recently sentenced in absentia to five years and eight months in prison, was held on Tuesday in Tehran.
In Iranian judicial reform, an appeal refers to an objection to a verdict issued in absentia. This review is conducted in the same court that issued the initial verdict.
According to reports, Mr. Sadeghi’s lawyer, Ramin Safarnia, said that he defended himself against the charges of assembly and collusion and propaganda against the regime during this session in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court presided over by Iman Afshari.
According to reports, Mr. Sadeghi was sentenced by the same branch in early February to five years and eight months in prison and additional penalties, including a travel ban and a prohibition from being present in Tehran for a year.
He was arrested in late October after the start of the nationwide protests in 2022 and was released from Evin Prison on bail of 900 million tomans in early February.
