The Armenian Foreign Minister: We do not intend to join NATO.
Ararat Mirzoyan, the Foreign Minister of Armenia, stated that Yerevan is seeking to strengthen relations with the United States and the European Union but has no intention of joining NATO.
Mirzoyan, in an interview with the news portal Tudos Noticias that was published on Monday, said, ‘We have cooperated with NATO and participated in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan. We are strengthening our presence in Kosovo.’
He added, ‘These cooperations are official. Regarding joining NATO, I must say no. This matter is not on Armenia’s agenda.’
The Armenian Foreign Minister emphasized, ‘Regarding relations with the European Union, I must also say that Yerevan leans towards Europe. I would like to refer to the recent statements of Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia, in the European Parliament. He said, ‘As much as the European Union is willing to approach Armenia, Yerevan is equally ready to approach the European Union.’
He added, ‘These cooperations are official. Regarding joining NATO, I must say no. This matter is not on Armenia’s agenda.’
Armenia’s Foreign Minister emphasized the need to address relations with the European Union. He stated that Yerevan is inclined towards Europe. I would like to refer to the recent statements of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the European Parliament. He said that as much as the European Union is willing to get closer to Armenia, Yerevan is equally ready to approach the European Union.
