Hasan Yazdani is the main contender for the Olympic gold medal.
Associated Press reported on the wrestling competitions at the 2024 Paris Olympics, mentioning several main stars of the competitions, including the name of Hasan Yazdani from Iran.
Hasan Yazdani, known as the ‘King’ in the 74-kilogram weight category, won the Olympic gold medal in 2016. He lost to David Taylor in the final of the 86-kilogram weight category in Tokyo. Now that Taylor is not competing in Paris, it may pave the way for Yazdani’s return to the gold medal.
Taha Akgul from Turkey, who won the gold medal in 2016, was one of the unsuccessful athletes in Tokyo, losing to Gable Steveson from the U.S. Earlier this year, in the European Championships, Akgul defeated Geno Petriashvili from Georgia, the silver medalist in Tokyo, with Steveson not returning, Akgul could emerge victorious in the 125-kilogram category.
Who will be the heavyweight freestyle wrestling champion? Steveson became a champion at the age of 21 but then changed his career path, leaving us waiting for a new face to take the spotlight in the heavyweight category.
None of the three American gold medalists from Tokyo are competing in the Paris Olympics, including Taylor who lost to Aaron Brooks in a selection.
