Axios website: At least 9 countries in the region have called for U.S. negotiations with Iran.

According to Barak Ravid, a reporter for the Axios website, citing two American officials, a meeting between the Islamic Republic and the United States in Oman, which was on the verge of cancellation, has been put back on the agenda.

According to this report, this change of stance occurred after urgent and intensive consultations by at least 9 Arab and Muslim countries in the region on Wednesday. These countries have asked the Trump administration not to follow through on its threat to withdraw from the negotiations and to maintain the diplomatic path.

One of the American officials said, ‘We told our Arab allies that we are participating in the meeting at their insistence and will listen to what the Iranians have to say, but we are very pessimistic about the outcome.’

Another American official also emphasized that Washington agreed to hold this meeting solely out of respect for the request of regional allies.

This return to the negotiation path occurs while previously, disagreements over the agenda and framework of the talks had cast doubt on holding the Oman meeting.
