Axios: Trump’s Economic Day Against Iran Passed Without the Promised Shock
Axios reported that the economic day Donald Trump promised to exert extensive pressure against Iran passed without the shock and grandeur previously mentioned, effectively turning into another extended ultimatum.
According to Axios, the operation known as economic expulsion is not intended to be executed as a sudden and swift action, but rather as a broad and gradual sanctions campaign that could ultimately deny countries supporting trade with Iran access to the U.S. financial system.
Scott Bassent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, announced the start of this operation by placing over 60 individuals, entities, and ships related to Iran on the sanctions list and expanding the scope of secondary sanctions. He also stated that each country will have a specific timeline to cease activities identified by Washington.
Axios wrote that the real test of this policy will be China, a country that purchases about 90% of Iran’s oil exports.
According to this media outlet, the success of the economic expulsion operation will ultimately be measured by whether Trump is truly willing to enforce the threatened sanctions against countries with the greatest economic and geopolitical significance.
