Baghaei: An attack or threat by the US against Iran’s civilian infrastructure is a blow to international law
Ismail Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, described the US attack or threat of attack against Iran’s civilian infrastructure as an unprecedented blow to the foundations of international humanitarian law on the anniversary of the adoption of the four Geneva Conventions.
Baghaei stated that the US, as a permanent member of the Security Council, has repeatedly threatened Iran’s infrastructure, bridges, and power plants with attack, and according to him, has actually committed such actions.
He called these actions a war crime and urged the member states of the Geneva Conventions and Switzerland, as the custodian of these conventions, not to remain indifferent to such cases.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that normalizing attacks or threats against civilian infrastructure could undermine the immunity of hospitals, power grids, bridges, water facilities, and other vital infrastructures of countries, leading to a setback for the international legal system.
