Bagheri Kani: Issuance of a Political Resolution at the Agency Does Not Affect Iran’s Nuclear Development

Bagheri Kani says issuing a political resolution at the agency will not affect Iran’s nuclear development.

Nasser Kanaani, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, said in his press conference on Monday, June 21, regarding the possibility of European countries using the snapback mechanism, ‘I will not speculate on what Europe intends, but naturally, Iran has acted and will act within the framework of its rights and obligations.’

The snapback mechanism is a procedure outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2231 that allows the parties to the JCPOA to request the automatic reinstatement of all international sanctions that were suspended under this resolution if Iran violates its commitments.

On the other hand, the acting Foreign Minister of Iran, in his speech at the meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in Russia, said that issuing a political resolution at the agency will have no impact on Tehran’s determination to continue the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to operationalize its nuclear development plans.
