Issuing a political resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency will not have any impact on Iran’s nuclear developments.
Naser Kanani, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, stated in his press conference on Tuesday, 21st of Khordad, regarding the possibility of triggering the snapback mechanism by European countries. He said that he will not speculate on Europe’s intentions here, but it is natural that Iran has acted and will continue to act within the framework of its rights and obligations.
The snapback mechanism is a provision outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which allows JCPOA parties to request the automatic return of all international sanctions suspended under this resolution in case of Iran’s non-compliance with its commitments.
On the other hand, the acting Foreign Minister of Iran mentioned in his speech at the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Russia that the issuance of a political resolution at the IAEA will not affect Tehran’s determination to continue peaceful use of nuclear energy and operationalize its nuclear development projects.
