Claim by Bassett: Economic pressure will force Iran to surrender
Scott Bassett, the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, in his latest remarks, claimed that economic pressures will eventually force Iran to surrender. He claimed that Iran’s economy is collapsing and its connection with the world has been limited. Bassett also claimed that Iranian workers are not showing up to work and the government has resorted to printing money. Referring to the fall of the Berlin Wall, he said it is impossible to predict the timing and manner of the end of such a situation. The U.S. Secretary of the Treasury described travel restrictions and air sanctions as part of the pressure on Iran. In other statements, he said that reaching an agreement with Tehran will likely be postponed until after the U.S. midterm elections.
