The Belgian Constitutional Court has suspended the exchange of prisoners between Iran and Belgium.
The Belgian Constitutional Court has stated that this treaty is suspended until a final decision, which will be determined in the next three months.
With this suspension, there will be no legal basis for the extradition of Assadollah Assadi, the Iranian diplomat, to Iran until a final decision is made on this matter.
According to this treaty, Iranian and Belgian criminals who have been sentenced to prison in the courts of the other country can serve their prison terms in their own country.
Opponents of the Iranian government and critics of this treaty had previously stated in opposition that the treaty is designed in a way to facilitate the release of Assadollah Assadi, the Iranian diplomat.
