Google’s Bitter Day
As the decline in stock values continued in the US market, a court ruling in the country dealt a double blow to Google’s parent company, Alphabet.
Following a complaint by the US federal prosecutor and the support of 38 state prosecutors, who formed a group representing both parties, the court ruled that Google had created a monopoly in internet search and advertising revenue, and monopolized the market.
Alphabet’s stocks fell another 4% following the announcement of this ruling, in addition to the ongoing decline in values.
Merrick Garland, the US federal prosecutor, celebrated this ruling and stated in his statement that it showed that no company, no matter how powerful, is above the law.
