Borrell told Amirabdollahian that European citizens who have been detained should be released as soon as possible.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief announced in a post on the social network X on Monday, March 26, that he had asked the Iranian foreign minister in a phone call to make efforts to reduce tensions in the region.

In this post, Josep Borrell wrote that in a telephone conversation with Hossein Amirabdollahian, he emphasized that the Iranian government should refrain from escalating nuclear tensions and also release the detained European citizens as soon as possible.

He added that he conveyed Europe’s concerns about the potential sale of Iranian missiles to Russia to Amirabdollahian.
