British police say three suspects left the country after the attack on Pouria Zeraati.
British police said on Tuesday that three suspects believed to be involved in the assault on Pouria Zeraati, the host of Iran International network, left Britain hours after the attack.
The Metropolitan Police in Britain stated in a release that detectives learned that two men were attacked in a residential street by suspects in a car driven by a third man who fled the scene.
Mr. Zeraati, 36, was injured in the leg on Friday evening in Wimbledon, southwest London. Police said he has since been discharged from the hospital.
According to the police, the suspects went directly to London Heathrow Airport after abandoning the car and left Britain hours after the attack.
Police said it is unclear why the victim was targeted, and authorities are investigating the motive with an open mind.
Police had previously stated that the matter is being investigated by the counter-terrorism unit.
The attack on Pouria Zeraati has sparked numerous reactions, with some journalistic entities and political activists condemning the attack.
Some opponents of the Iranian government have pointed the finger of accusation towards this government, but the Iranian embassy official in London has denied any connection between the Iranian government and the attack on Pouria Zeraati.
