Canada sanctions 12 officials of the Islamic Republic
Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said that Canada is imposing sanctions on twelve other senior officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran due to their involvement in gross and systematic human rights violations, including through the suppression of protests.
According to Global News, some of these individuals are from law enforcement authorities and have played a role in suppressing protests in the western part of the country.
The Canadian Foreign Minister’s office says that it is cooperating with international partners to respond to the Islamic Republic’s very bad behavior towards the people of Iran.
Under the new sanctions, the assets of individuals listed will be blocked in Canada, and they will be prevented from entering the country.
Global News reports that Canada has previously imposed numerous sanctions against Iranian officials and hundreds of entities, but experts have doubts about the effectiveness of these sanctions.
