The Prime Minister of Canada says the US and Israel’s attack on Iran is a sign of the failure of the international order.
Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, stated that the ongoing war in the Middle East is yet another example of the failure of the law-based international order.
According to him, despite years of resolutions and efforts by the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency to manage this issue, the current crisis and the reactions that have followed show that this order has been unable to prevent the escalation of violence and war.
Carney added that the US and Israel have launched military operations against Iran without consulting the United Nations or their allies, including Canada, an action which he says is not in line with international behavior rules.
He also called for adherence to international rules of military engagement and moving towards diplomatic solutions, emphasizing that reducing tensions and broad diplomacy are essential to prevent the spread of war.
The Prime Minister of Canada also said that his country continues to support efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, but this support comes with concerns about the negative impact of recent developments on global order.
Carney said this is not a blank check, it does not mean our participation in this action, nor does it mean we are demanding something in return; none of these are true. It is simply a clear and straightforward stance.
He added that Canada is calling for a rapid de-escalation of tensions and is ready to help achieve this goal.
The Prime Minister of Canada also emphasized that diplomatic engagement, along with a commitment to a broader political solution to resolve this crisis and prevent the spread of conflict, is essential. He stated that innocent civilians must be protected and all parties must commit to reaching sustainable agreements to end the proliferation of nuclear weapons and terrorist extremism.
