44 students poisoned by carbon monoxide gas in the girls’ dormitory at Shahid Beheshti University
Following the poisoning of 44 students by carbon monoxide gas in the girls’ dormitory at Shahid Beheshti University, Iranian media have reported that the university’s vice-chancellor for student affairs has resigned.
Tehran’s fire department announced that this morning, due to a technical fault in the boiler room of a girls’ dormitory belonging to Shahid Beheshti University, 44 students suffered poisoning from gas inhalation.
According to the IRIB news agency, this dormitory is located on Daneshjoo Boulevard in Velenjak.
Jalal Maleki, the spokesperson for Tehran’s fire department, said all these students were evacuated from the site and handed over to emergency services. He mentioned that the dormitory might be sealed off until the boiler room issue is resolved.
Tehran’s emergency services also stated that officers went to the scene of the incident after receiving reports of carbon monoxide gas poisoning.
