The head of the Education Commission says the pressure from corporal punishment is the cause of Nima Najafi’s death.

Alireza Monadi, head of the Education and Research Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, has requested in a letter to the Minister of Education for a thorough investigation into the case of the death of Nima Najafi, a 14-year-old student from Zanjan, and to provide a report to this commission.

According to Tasnim, in this letter, the head of the commission stated that the cause of death of this student was cardiac arrest resulting from corporal punishment and physical pressure by the school authorities.

Earlier, domestic media, in conversations with Nima Najafi’s relatives and residents of Sohrin village in Zanjan, reported that after disciplinary punishment on the morning of the incident, he ran twice around the school yard and after returning to stand in line, his condition worsened and he collapsed.

Nima’s uncle, in an interview with Iran Watchdog, stated that this student was overweight compared to his peers, and this issue possibly played a role in the occurrence of cardiac arrest.
