China Draws New Red Lines for Taiwan

China issues a new warning to Taiwan

On Wednesday, China announced that it would take retaliatory action if Tsai Ing-wen, the President of Taiwan, meets with the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives during her visit to the United States.

Ms. Tsai left for the United States on Wednesday morning and will then go to Guatemala and Belize to strengthen Taiwan’s diplomatic ties with its allies. She will then head to California, where, according to the pre-announced schedule, Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, is set to meet with her.

China, which still hopes to reincorporate this democratic island into its territory, opposes official diplomatic relations between world countries and Taipei based on the One China principle and considers any efforts in this regard as provocative.
