The CIA chief made an unannounced trip to Moscow

American media have reported that John Ratcliffe, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, traveled to Moscow for negotiations that were not previously announced.

According to a CBS report, Ratcliffe arrived in the Russian capital on Tuesday, but so far no details have been released about the purpose of the trip or the officials he is supposed to meet.

Flight tracking data also shows that a large American military plane headed to Russia from Latvia on Tuesday. This plane took off from Riga airport and landed in Moscow about two hours later.

Washington and Moscow have so far remained silent about the nature of this trip and the content of the discussions.

A face-to-face meeting between senior U.S. and Russian officials is considered a rare event, and it is said to be Ratcliffe’s first trip to Russia since assuming the role of CIA Director, although he has maintained contact with Russian intelligence officials.

Ratcliffe is also one of the highest-ranking American officials to visit Russia during Donald Trump’s second presidential term.
