Confirmation of the death of Esra Panahi, an Ardabil student, by security forces; another student is in a coma
After days of rumors and discussions about the death of an Ardabil student from the Shahed Girls’ School, the Telegram channel of the Coordinating Council of Iranian Educators’ Unions has published its supplementary report, stating that it has been confirmed through fact-checking that the Ardabil student died on the same day as the attack by plainclothes forces on Shahed High School.
On Monday, October 17, this council released a statement saying that based on its investigations, another student from the same school has been in a coma since that day. Previously, in a statement dated October 14, titled ‘Attack by Plainclothes Forces on Shahed School in Ardabil,’ the council reported being uninformed about the status of detained students, stating that on October 13, plainclothes forces attacked Shahed High School in Ardabil. During this attack, several students were arrested, and news of the death of a student named Esra Panahi was also released.
In its original statement, the Coordinating Council also announced the death of this student. However, after receiving various reports from different sources, the council decided to remove the news of the death from the statement. It was only after verifying through close and reliable sources that the council confirmed the student had died on the mentioned date.
Additionally, another student from the same school has been in a coma since that day. It is worth noting that after Ali Daei expressed his condolences over Esra Panahi’s death, state media released a short video of a person claiming to be Esra’s uncle, alleging that the student died due to a congenital heart disease. It is noteworthy that, alongside the start of public protests in Iran, security officials and state media are trying to link the deaths in these protests to suicide and illness. It is said that more than 250 people have lost their lives in the protests over the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini.
