Confirmation of the death of Esra Panahi, a student from Ardabil, by security forces; Another student is in a coma

After days of rumors regarding the death of an Ardabil student from Shahed girls’ school, the Telegram channel of the Coordinating Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations has reported in its supplementary report that it has been verified that this Ardabil student died on the same day of the attack by plainclothes forces on Shahed high school.

On Monday, October 17, this council released a statement saying that based on its investigations, another student from the same school has been in a coma since that day. Previously, in a statement dated October 14 titled ‘Attack of plainclothes forces on Shahed School in Ardabil,’ the council announced its lack of information about the status of detained students. It stated that on October 13, plainclothes forces attacked Shahed high school in Ardabil, during which several students were detained, and the news of a student named Esra Panahi’s death was also released.

In the main statement, the Coordinating Council also published the news of this student’s death. However, after hearing various reports from different sources, the council preferred to remove the death news from the statement. Later, through close and reliable sources and verification, it was confirmed for the council that the mentioned student died on the specified date.

Additionally, another student from the same school has been in a coma since that day. It is worth mentioning that after Ali Daei expressed condolences for Esra Panahi’s death, state media released a short video of a person introducing himself as Esra’s uncle, claiming that the student died due to a congenital heart disease. It is noteworthy that with the start of public protests in Iran, security officials along with government media are trying to attribute the deaths in these protests to suicide and illness. It is said that so far, more than 250 people have lost their lives in protests over the suspicious death of Mahsa Amini.
