County License Plate Restriction for Traffic in Tehran
The Tehran City Council approved that from the year 2025, vehicles with county license plates will only be allowed to enter Tehran for 7 days a month. Yesterday, on February 2, 2025, in the 300th session of the Islamic City Council of Tehran, the bill to determine traffic tolls and rates for county license plate vehicles was approved with the majority of votes in favor.
According to this plan, county license plate vehicles will only be allowed to enter Tehran for 7 days a month. If these vehicles enter the traffic scheme zone, they must pay 15 times the toll compared to Tehran license plate vehicles, and after 10 days, this amount will increase to three times.
The head of the Tehran Vehicle Inspection Office stated regarding the annual contribution of county license plate vehicles to Tehran’s air pollution that more than 7% of passing vehicles in Tehran have county plates, producing 145 tons of pollution annually.
The head of the Urban Development and Transportation Commission of the Tehran City Council also called for a joint meeting with the governorate and parliament representatives to find practical solutions in this regard.
The county license plate restriction plan was also proposed by Tehran’s traffic police in 2021.
