Indictment Against Online Drug Sales
The head of the Food and Drug Administration in Iran has stated that selling drugs to patients online and in cyberspace is a crime.
He mentioned that unauthorized platforms in this sector have been condemned and fined, but this measure has not been a deterrent.
Seyed Heydar Mohammadi has said that we have no problem with online sales in the field of supplements and cosmetic and hygiene products. Currently, 500 pharmacies are licensed to sell supplements online, but nowhere in the world are drugs sold online.
He says there is currently no regulation for online drug sales, and since selling drugs requires pharmaceutical consultation and explanations, and it is not feasible to send a pharmacist with every drug delivered to a patient’s home, we do not engage in this area because it could lead to errors.
Mr. Mohammadi emphasized that the duty of the Food and Drug Administration is to oversee authorized drug sales centers, while law enforcement and security agencies handle unauthorized cases.
