Cuba confirms CIA chief’s meeting with security officials in Havana
The Cuban government announced that John Ratcliffe, the head of the CIA, met with officials from Cuba’s Ministry of the Interior in Havana.
According to the Cuban government, this meeting took place following the extension of the U.S. offer of $100 million in aid to mitigate the effects of the oil blockade and was part of efforts to improve dialogue between the two countries.
Havana also stated that it informed American officials that Cuba is not a threat to the national security of the United States.
Fuel shortages in Cuba have worsened in recent months due to U.S. pressures on oil and energy product supplies, affecting the operations of hospitals, schools, and government offices.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel also stated that if the U.S. lifts its blockade on the country, conditions will improve more quickly.
