Cuban People Protest Power Outages by Taking to the Streets

The people of Cuba took to the streets in protest against power outages.

Hundreds of people in Santiago, Cuba’s second-largest city, took to the streets in a rare protest gathering.

The protesters are demonstrating against a new wave of power cuts and food shortages in the country.

In one of the videos posted on social media, protesters can be seen chanting ‘electricity and food’ while the police watch them.

Miguel Díaz-Canel, the President of Cuba, posted on social media that the government has heard the protesters’ voices, but at the same time accused the United States of seeking to stir up unrest in the country.

Tensions in Cuba have escalated in recent weeks amid an economic crisis and rising inflation.

The Cuban government attributes the economic crisis to U.S. sanctions, but critics say the current economic crisis is due to government mismanagement.

This economic crisis is the worst in Cuba in three decades, and last month the government had to request help from the United Nations World Food Program for the first time.
