Despite concerns, the filling of the Chamshir Dam has begun
Despite numerous ambiguities and objections, the first phase of filling the Chamshir Dam in Gachsaran has officially started. The presence of salt layers, oil wells, and unexplored archaeological sites in the dam’s reservoir are among the concerns.
The first phase of filling the Chamshir Dam, located 25 kilometers southeast of Gachsaran in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, began on Monday, March 13.
According to the IRNA news agency, the executive deputy of the Chamshir Dam and Power Plant project, speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony marking the start of this operation, said that the first phase of filling, with a volume of 350 million cubic meters, was successfully completed.
Mohammadreza Fazel, stating that 15% of the dam’s reservoir was filled in the first phase, added that the Chamshir Dam and Power Plant is the largest hydroelectric project in the country, built with the aim of storing 23 billion cubic meters of water and improving water quality and flood control on the Zohre River.
