Despite negotiations, the US sanctioned an Iranian liquid gas trader and his affiliated companies
On Tuesday, April 21, the United States imposed new sanctions against Asadollah Imamjomeh, a major liquid gas trader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and his affiliated company network. This action was taken while negotiations between Tehran and Washington regarding the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran are still ongoing.
According to the US Department of the Treasury, the Imamjomeh network is responsible for exporting hundreds of millions of dollars worth of LPG and crude oil from Iran to foreign markets.
The Treasury Department’s statement noted that these products are considered the main sources of revenue for the Islamic Republic of Iran and play a role in financing nuclear programs, advanced conventional weapons, and regional proxy groups such as the Lebanese militants, Yemen’s Houthis, and the Palestinian group Hamas.
Scott Besent, the US Treasury Secretary, stated in this announcement that Imamjomeh and his network attempted to export thousands of shipments of liquid gas, including from US soil, to bypass US sanctions and generate revenue for the Islamic Republic of Iran.
