The doctor who sold the drug ketamine to Matthew Perry, the actor from the popular series Friends, a few weeks before his death, was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Salvador Plascencia admitted to several instances of prescribing ketamine last summer.

Matthew Perry, the 54-year-old Hollywood actor, was found lifeless in the hot tub of his home in Los Angeles in November 2023, after battling depression and addiction for several years.

Examinations on his body showed that the high concentration of ketamine in his blood led to his death.

Previously, individuals close to Mr. Perry had told forensic investigators that he was undergoing treatment involving ketamine injections.

Ketamine is a powerful anesthetic that is sometimes used under medical supervision to treat depression, anxiety, and pain.

In a statement released by his lawyers, Salvador Plascencia said he accepted the sentence with deep regret.

Five people were arrested in connection with the actor’s death, and Mr. Plascencia is the first among them to have been sentenced.
