Doctors’ Strike in South Korea
The South Korean government threatened that if thousands of doctors do not return to work by the end of today, it will take legal action against their strike.
South Korean officials say that their medical licenses may also be suspended.
About three-quarters of the young doctors in that country left their workplaces last week. They disagree with plans to annually increase the number of applicants admitted to medical schools, saying that more competition could lead to a loss of their income.
Officials say that this increase in the number of doctors will address the shortages caused by the country’s rapidly aging population, but doctors say that fundamental issues such as low payment systems and their working conditions should be addressed first.
