Election Headquarters Warns Candidates: Carnivals and Street Gatherings Are Prohibited

The spokesperson for the country’s Election Headquarters said today, July 2, that organizing carnivals and street gatherings is prohibited according to the law.

Mohsen Eslami stated that if they obtain a permit for this, it means that the Security Council has agreed to ensure the security of the event in an open space like a square. However, our recommendation is that this should be done in enclosed spaces such as stadiums and halls.

Previously, the cancellation of the permit for a gathering of Massoud Pezeshkian’s supporters at Heidarnia Stadium in Tehran sparked protests from his election campaign. Following this, in a campaign titled ‘A Thousand Squares,’ Mr. Pezeshkian’s supporters were asked to engage with people in the main squares of cities.
