Elias Hazrati, Leader of the Islamic Republic, Assigns Pezeshkian to Reassess Hijab Policy

Elias Hazrati, the leader of the Islamic Republic, has tasked Pezeshkian with pursuing the hijab policy again.

Elias Hazrati, head of the government’s Information Council, announced today, December 5th, that the leader of the Islamic Republic has instructed Masoud Pezeshkian to revisit this policy. This policy even led to the approval of the Law of Chastity and Hijab in the Islamic Consultative Assembly. However, according to Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Parliament, and several governmental and authoritative figures, it was temporarily set aside due to fears of a nationwide uprising similar to the one in the fall of 2022, following the 12-day war with Israel and by the order of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic.

Now, the head of the government’s Information Council claims that a few individuals are responsible for social disorders, while the majority of our society is ethical and respectful. According to him, the President’s view on the hijab has always been clear and transparent.

Just as I, Ms. Behrouz Azar, and Mr. Rabiei have had and continue to have a firm and clear belief and perspective.

We are all Muslims and believe in religion, sect, and religious laws.

These statements were made in response to comments by Azim Ebrahimpour, the head of the Jihad for Clarification headquarters, who said that Masoud Pezeshkian had raised directives regarding the issue of non-compliance with the hijab in a cabinet meeting, but three people, including Elias Hazrati, Zahra Behrouz Azar, and Ali Rabiei, opposed this policy.
