Elon Musk will soon use X exclusively for calls and texts
Elon Musk is still striving to add voice and video calling capabilities to X. Now, in his latest post, the billionaire has claimed that in the near future, he intends to put aside his phone and use X exclusively for calls and even sending texts.
In a new post on the social media platform X, Musk says that in a few months, he will disconnect his phone number and will use X exclusively for texts and voice/video calls.
Musk made this claim despite the fact that, due to security limitations, it’s currently not feasible to rely on a single platform for calls and texts. As independent app researcher Nima Ouji tells Gizmodo, the verification codes sent via text for user authentication still form a significant part of our online lives.
In fact, platforms like WhatsApp send verification codes via text when users want to create a new account. Even X itself uses text codes for user authentication, although this option is only available to premium subscribers.
If he truly intends to implement this idea, Musk would essentially force users to purchase an X premium subscription, costing at least $8 per month, to make calls to him. While all users can receive video or voice calls, the ability to make calls is only offered to premium subscribers.
